The McLachlin bridge and office, 1894
Daniel McLachlin bought the land at the mouth of the Madawaska in 1851, laid out the town plot, and his family mills ran the riverfront for two generations.

Where do I park?
Right on John Street North, and in the town lots off Elgin Street West. All of it is free, and the map above shows where the lots are.
When is the market?
Sunday mornings, 9 to 2, on John Street North. The season runs from the first Sunday in June to the last Sunday in September, 17 Sundays, rain or shine.
How far is it from Ottawa?
About 25 minutes from Kanata and 40 from downtown Ottawa, straight up Highway 417. The town sits where the Madawaska River meets the Ottawa.
Can I walk it?
Easily. The three streets take about ten minutes end to end, and the Heritage Trail runs through downtown to Robert Simpson Park and the water.
Is there a Chamber of Commerce?
No. Arnprior has no Chamber of Commerce and no BIA, and the Town’s own 2024 business study says so. The downtown businesses run this themselves, which is why the site exists.
